Why C-Arm Tube Types Matter For Your Practice

There are many factors that come into play when choosing the right medical equipment. Quality is everything in the medical world and you’ll want to invest in durable and high-quality equipment that provides the most accurate readings. When it comes to C-Arms, the type of tube you use will make a difference in the quality and experience for both patients and practitioners. Before we suggest which anode you will want to choose for your facility’s C-arm, we’ll break down what the difference is, and why it’s important.

What is an Anode?

Inside all C-Arms and X-Ray tubes there are two main components that create the image during fluoroscopy: a cathode and an anode. The cathode receives incoming electrical currents from the machine’s generator and emits a beam of electrons onto the anode. The anode is a small disc that receives the electrons and converts it into X-Ray.

Which Anode is Better for Procedures?

There are two types of anode: stationary and rotating. The stationary anode stays still and produces an immense amount of heat in the surgical suite. With long term usage, the heat can cause a deformation in the angle of the anode, reducing overall image quality. The rotating anode continuously moves around a fixed point, while the heat from the fluoroscopy is evenly dispersed. This allows for longer scans at higher doses without the danger of overheating.

Either anode style could work well for your facility, depending on the type of procedure. A stationary anode is okay for short, lower-dose procedures, such as hand and foot specialties. Stationary tubes are also frequently found in more compact, space-saving models. However, a rotating anode is the best for longer procedures, and will benefit the long term maintenance of your C-arm system.

Fujifilm Persona CS

We only offer the best quality in medical equipment. The Fujifilm Persona CS is a 5kW generator with a rotating anode C-arm and has one of the smallest footprints for space utilization in the industry. Regardless of your specialty, we’re here to help you select the best C-arm system with the best tube style for your facility’s needs.
